The Google Team

I just wanted to say thank you to the team at Google for helping people to vote. They are building a site that will use Google Maps so voters can enter their address and instantly receive where their polling place is.  Right now, they do not have the updated information on polling places but they will have before Election Day.

So, if you need an absentee ballot or have other questions, please visit the San Francisco Department of Elections.

PS - I also thought this was kind of cool

This Old Bag

I took a break from campaigning yesterday to briefly attend a “This Old Bag” rooftop party at Medjool in the Mission. This was preview to the fundraiser the group is hosting on October 17th to support the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund.

Here I am with one of the This Old Bag Board Members, Bahya Oumlil-Murad. Sorry about quality of my camera phone.

Together We Can Make Change

I read the Chuck Nevius’ column in the Chronicle yesterday about houses of ill repute in the Sunset.  It’s not a promising story, but there is a bright spot - Art Tom.

Mr. Tom deserves an “attaboy!”

Art Tom worked with David Chan, formerly a crime prevention specialist with San Francisco SAFE and now a member of my staff, to start his neighborhood watch program.  The program has not only built community it has developed leaders like Art Tom.  It just goes to show you that only together can we make our neighborhood the kind of place that we want it to be.

Art Tom and David Chan have something to teach to San Franciscans who want to ensure safe neighborhoods, that their child can attend the local school, or any other issue.  Government can help, but real change happens when we organize and build community neighbor by neighbor.

David Chan Joins Dudum Campaign

Chinese Community Leader David Chan

Joins Ron Dudum for Supervisor Campaign

San Francisco, CA (August 23, 2008)- David Chan, one of San Francisco’s most respected Chinese community organizing leaders today announced his support for Ron Dudum for Supervisor for the Sunset in District 4. Effective immediately Chan, a former police officer, who recently stepped down from his position as a Crime Prevention Specialist with San Francisco SAFE (Safety Awareness For Everyone) will join Dudum’s campaign staff, where he is expected to serve as an advisor and Liaison to the Chinese community.

“Ron Dudum is an independent leader who will work for the true needs of our neighborhoods,” said David Chan. He’s a grassroots candidate focused on sound public policy for our neighborhood not the same old politics from downtown.”

“The Mayor’s political ambitions have victimized our neighborhoods, Chan continued. “He did a disservice to the Sunset, and particularly the Chinese community by appointing a member of his staff to the Board of Supervisors to represent us, especially when she had never before been involved in our community. Now it’s our time to elect a true representative to the Board of Supervisors.”

“David Chan has been one of those trusted people who has selflessly helped our community for many years,” stated Ron Dudum. “I am so grateful that he has joined my team for this November’s election for Supervisor.”

David Chan will host a community reception for Ron Dudum:

Date: Thursday, August 28th

Time: 11AM

Location: Noriega Okazu Ya Restaurant

2445 Noriega St. (between 31st Ave & 32nd Ave)

Graffiti Vandals

graffiti truck Like many residents of the Sunset, I am tired of the graffiti that appears on property around our neighborhood. It damages our property, costs the city money and adds blight to our neighborhoods.

As your Supervisor, I will introduce legislation to shake up parents and guardians who are in denial about their children’s actions, unaware of them or simply don’t care.

We need restorative justice. And, as part of this program I will wake up these graffiti vandals and their parents by allowing authorities to make these “taggers paint our graffiti in addition to making their parents or guardians liable for civil damages as part of a broader strategy against blight in our neighborhoods.

David Chan Joins Dudum Campaign

I am so very excited to have David Chan joining my campaign for Supervisor. He is truly one of those Sunset stalwarts who has been active in our community for years literally helping thousands of families. He’s a pretty unassuming guy, not looking for headlines only looking to help.

Welcome aboard David and thank you. Along with Tuan and Michael we make a great team for the neighborhood.

Welcome to Dudum for Supervisor

Please take a look around my updated website. I hope you will get involved with our grassroots campaign.

It’s Our Time

The hard working families of the Sunset and Parkside deserve an independent member of the Board of Supervisors who understands our concerns, can deliver results, and will not simply abandon our neighborhood for their personal ambition of higher political office.

Those days are over. Now, it’s our time.

I’m a lifelong Sunset resident, a public school kid with immigrant parents who is not looking to run for higher office - only to ably represent the neighborhood I care deeply about.

Today, my wife and I are raising our children in the same home where I grew up. And someday, I would like my children to have the same opportunity to raise their families here.

However, without an independent voice standing up to special interests and advocating for working families - my kids and many like them may never get the chance.

We deserve better from City Hall.

Our neighborhood needs an elected member of the Board of Supervisors who demands respect from City Hall for the honest, hard working families who play by the rules - delivering us safe neighborhoods, reliable MUNI service, excellent schools, affordable homeownership and a city government that spends money wisely.

That’s Common Sense Leadership.
